What it answers
- Sucuri
- Is malware, a blacklist, or a known file infection present?
- CloakScan
- Does Googlebot receive a different page than a visitor?
Comparison
They are both used after a “hacked site” scare. They answer different questions. Sucuri looks at malware and the server. CloakScan looks at what Googlebot is served versus what a visitor is served.

| Capability | Sucuri | CloakScan |
|---|---|---|
| What it answers | Is malware, a blacklist, or a known file infection present? | Does Googlebot receive a different page than a visitor? |
| Visitor vs Googlebot crawl | No. SiteCheck is a malware and blacklist scan, not a dual crawl. | Yes. Every scan compares a real browser with a Googlebot identity. |
| File and malware signatures | Yes. This is the core of the Sucuri plugin and cleanup workflow. | No. CloakScan never reads the server filesystem. |
| WAF and cleanup | Yes, on paid Sucuri plans. | No. CloakScan is monitoring and evidence, not a firewall. |
| Plugin or server access | SiteCheck can run from a URL. Deep scans and WAF need a plugin or DNS. | Never. Paste a URL. No plugin, no DNS, no credentials. |
| Continuous cloaking watch | No scheduled crawler-versus-visitor comparison. | Yes. 6h, 24h, or 7-day cadence, with email and in-app alerts. |
| Google index spam | Not a first-class check. A clean origin can still have indexed spam. | Yes. Index inspection for pharma, casino, adult, and crypto URLs. |
| Client-ready evidence | Security reports focused on malware and cleanup. | Dated score, dual screenshots, verdict, and monthly PDF. |
“Sucuri” here means the usual stack people compare against: SiteCheck, the WordPress plugin, and the WAF or cleanup plans. Those products are strong at malware. They are not a dual-crawl cloaking monitor.

Why the green result misleads
Cloaking is often not a file on disk. It is a rule that changes HTML, a redirect, or an edge response when the visitor looks like Googlebot. Sucuri is built to find malware and known bad files. That work still matters. It does not tell you whether the same URL returns two pages.
CloakScan sends both identities, renders both, and keeps the
screenshots. If you already cleaned with Sucuri, run a dual crawl and
an
index check. The leftover is often in Google’s index, not in
wp-content.
Longer version: why a clean plugin scan can sit next to indexed spam.
Before you pick
No. Sucuri is a malware, WAF, and cleanup product. CloakScan is an external cloaking and site-integrity monitor. A green Sucuri scan and a dirty Google result can both be true. Use Sucuri to clean a server. Use CloakScan to see what crawlers are still being served.
SiteCheck looks for known malware, blacklists, and suspicious files. Crawler-only HTML, edge rules, and IP-gated spam often never touch the filesystem it inspects. That is why a SiteCheck “clean” result does not prove Google and visitors see the same page.
No. CloakScan works from the outside. You paste a URL. There is no WordPress plugin, no DNS change, and no server access.
After a compromise, or on any WordPress portfolio you maintain. Sucuri (or a similar cleaner) removes files and can sit in front of the site. CloakScan keeps comparing visitor and Googlebot views, then watches the index so a leftover payload or a re-infection does not stay invisible.
